How does a young dog end up like Buddy? Abuse, neglect, human ignorance -- his original owner was a "collector." Here's the latest medical information:
Buddy's right leg was broken and never set. As a result it healed in a crooked position.
The orthopedic deformity of Buddy's left leg is due to a combination of things. First is poor breeding or genetics. Second is malnutrition. Third is being kept in a crate that was too small for his growing body. The combination of these factors caused one of the bones in Buddy's left leg to fuse too early. As a result the leg is severely deformed. Buddy also has mild orthopedic deformities of his ribs, sternum and rear legs.
They will have to break (actually cut) each leg in 2 or 3 places to straighten them out. Buddy will have to be hospitalized for 3-4 weeks while he recovers. Then he will have to have x-rays every 6 weeks until his legs have healed properly.
The estimated cost of Buddy'streatment is $3,500-$4,000
Doesn't he look like the kind of boy who deserves a miracle???
He's partway there, folks!
Mid-America Basset Rescue and Western Tennessee Valley Basset Rescue are working together to get Buddy fixed-up. He is now being fostered by our pal Stacie at MABR, in preparation for his surgery.
From these pictures, you can see that Buddy's a happy boy, but there's more
